Welcome to The Magic Box.

I’m Machatarn, and I’m so glad you’re here.

I first discovered pottery when I was sixteen years old, and from that very first experience with clay, I knew I’d found something that would stay with me for life. Over the years, pottery has become far more than a creative outlet. It has been a place of calm, reflection, joy and endless learning.

As life became busier, I realised something remarkable. When our hands are immersed in clay, our minds often become quieter. We slow down. We focus on the present moment. We stop worrying about getting everything right and simply enjoy the process of creating.

Time and time again, I’ve seen the same thing happen for other people.

Throughout my career I’ve worked with children, teenagers and adults in schools, youth programs, disability services and community settings. I’ve supported people with a wide range of abilities, life experiences and challenges, and one thing has remained constant: when people discover the joy of creating something with their own hands, something shifts. Confidence grows. Conversations begin. Laughter returns. People leave not only with something they’ve made, but with a sense of accomplishment they didn’t expect.

Those experiences inspired me to create The Magic Box.

My vision was never simply to open a pottery studio.

I wanted to create a welcoming space where people could step away from the pressures of everyday life, reconnect with their creativity and discover the quiet satisfaction that comes from making something with their own hands.

Whether you’re trying pottery for the first time, looking for a new creative hobby, seeking a relaxed and supportive environment, or wanting a class that can be tailored to your individual needs, you’ll always be welcomed here with patience, encouragement and respect.

There is no pressure to be perfect.

There is no right or wrong.

Only the opportunity to explore, create, learn and enjoy the journey.

After spending a lifetime working with people of all ages and abilities, I’ve come to believe that creativity is something we all carry within us. Sometimes it simply needs the right environment to flourish.

That is the heart of The Magic Box.

It isn’t just about making pottery.

It’s about making space—for creativity, for confidence, for connection and for moments of quiet joy in a busy world.

My certifications

Working with Children's Check

I have completed the necessary training to work with children. I also have a rich history in working with all ages of children and youth and embraces the opportunity to teach children and youth, both abled and disabled, all aspects of pottery, to suit their ages and abilities to suit their requirements.
